There’s always plenty to see and do in Gulf Shores, though you don’t necessarily have to do anything, if you don’t want to: it’s perfectly acceptable just to spend your entire time here checking out the beautiful beaches! But if you do want to do something slightly more active, then you’ll find a whole host of local events and goings-on to get involved in. If you’re visiting from the middle of September and into October, you’ll be able to attend a popular shrimp festival, Oktoberfest, and see a new play at the theatre, for example! You’ll find all the details below.

If any festival makes it to 47 years and counting, you know it’s going to be good. And how could the National Shrimp Festival not be brilliant? It’s all about music, art, and, you guessed it, Shrimp! Taking place from October 11 - 14 on the Gulf Shores beach, the 47th edition of the festival promises to be bigger and better than ever!
If you’re more of a beer drinker than a shrimp eater, then you’ll want to head down to the 3rd Annual Oktoberfest, which will be taking place from 2 - 6 pm at Luna's Eat & Drink on September 30. Expect to find plenty of German-inspired fun taking place!
Everyone knows the inspiring story of Helen Keller, who was blind and deaf since childhood yet achieved remarkable things. You’ll be able to see her tale performed in “The Miracle Worker,” which will be on the stage at the South Baldwin Community Theatre from September 14 - 23.
